Palmer Theological Seminary Launches New 100% Online Certificate in Theological Studies

St. Davids, PA: Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University is excited to announce the launch of its Certificate in Theological Studies, a new 100% online graduate-level certificate designed to offer accessible, academically rigorous theological education to ministry leaders, community leaders, and laypersons.

This program combines the expertise of practitioner-scholars with the flexibility of self-paced learning, making seminary-level study possible for those balancing work, ministry, and life commitments. In just nine months, students engage in courses that build core competencies in biblical interpretation, theology, and mission, equipping them with practical tools to strengthen their ministries and open doors to further seminary study.

“This four-course, online certificate grounds emerging and seasoned leaders in Scripture and theology while honoring the real rhythms of work and ministry. In just nine months, students gain clarity of conviction and tools they can use the very next day.”

Wynand Johannes de Kock, Professor of Practical Theology and Director of Openseminary at Palmer

The curriculum is delivered in a flexible format with dynamic video lectures, optional weekly discussions, and guided due dates that support learners wherever they are. Offered fully online, the Certificate in Theological Studies is structured around self-paced coursework delivered in seven-week terms. Several new cohorts begin throughout the Fall and Spring, allowing students to start at multiple points that align with their personal and professional lives.

For the 2025–2026 academic year, the tuition rate is $480 per credit, bringing the total cost of the certificate to $5,760. Students may also be eligible for Palmer scholarships and financial aid.

““This certificate expands the ways Palmer can walk alongside leaders in their formation. It creates an on-ramp to seminary education that is both thoughtful and flexible, inviting students to deepen their faith, sharpen their understanding, and pursue the next step in their ministry journey with confidence.”

Rev. Dr. Kimberlee A. Johnson, Dean of Palmer Theological Seminary & College

Upon completion, the certificate satisfies the theological background requirement for prospective Doctor of Ministry (DMin) students and provides advanced standing for students pursuing a PhD in Professional Practice, allowing learners to continue their seminary journey seamlessly.

The Certificate in Theological Studies exemplifies Palmer’s commitment to equipping faithful and effective Christian leaders for service in diverse ministries around the world.
