Palmer Seminary of Eastern University will celebrate the rich legacy of Rev. Frank B. Mitchell Jr. by hosting the 45th Mitchell Lectureship on February 6th at 10 am at Pinn Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia (2251 N. 54th St, Philadelphia, PA).
Beginning in 1981, this event was established to recognize Black scholarship and the ways the church can exhort all demographics to engage in Kingdom-building work together. The Mitchell Lecture has a long history of featuring notable keynote speakers such as author, lecturer, and liberationist theologian, Dr. James H. Cone, Rev. Traci Blackmon, Rev. Dr. Renita Weems, Rev. Dr. James A. Forbes, Rev. Dr. Marvin A. McMickle, Rev. Dr. Obery Hendricks, and others.
This year’s theme is “The Cost of Truth: The Black Church and the Battle Over Education, Memory, and Identity,” and we are honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Angela D. Sims, President of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Sims is an ordained Baptist minister and the first Black woman President to lead any Rochester-area college. In 2024, she was elected to the presidential line of the American Academy of Religion. Additionally, Dr. Sims is an author and a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
The lecture will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by a Q&A. A light meal will also be served. Registration is open to everyone.
Please join in honoring the legacy of Rev. Frank B. Mitchell Jr. by registering and attending the Mitchell Lectureship.
