St. Davids, PA, January 11, 2018: Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University is pleased to announce the Frank B. Mitchell Lectureship will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Pinn Memorial Baptist Church at 2251 N. 54th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19131.
The Frank B. Mitchell Lectureship is the keynote event in the Seminary’s celebration of African-American History month and has been held for over thirty years. It is named in honor of Rev. Dr. Frank B. Mitchell, Jr., who served for over 40 years as Pastor of Pinn Memorial Baptist Church.
The guest lecturer will be Rev. Dr. Leslie D. Callahan, Pastor at St. Paul’s Baptist Church of Philadelphia, PA. Rev. Dr. Callahan is the first female pastor of the 119 year old church. Rev. Dr. Callahan earned the Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Harvard University/Radcliffe, the Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Philosophy in Religion from Princeton University.
Dr. Callahan has research interest in religious history in the United States with a focus on independent African-American Christianity and Pentecostal studies. She has served on the faculty of New York Theological Seminary as Assistant Professor of Modern Church History and African-American Studies, and prior to that, on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania as Assistant Professor of Religious Studies.
