Prayer Deacons

Prayerfully supporting the Palmer Seminary Community, the Seminary Chaplain enlists students, staff, and faculty for this prayer ministry.
As Prayer Deacons, our volunteers pray weekly over prayer requests received in person, retrieved from e-mails, and also from prayer chests located in the 4th floor prayer room, the dining room, and Laws Chapel. With the Seminary Chaplain the Prayer Deacons work to distill any confidential information out of the requests, so that the requests can also be honored during Chapel services, as well as other possible public forums. Prayer Deacons lead prayer during Chapel services and meet periodically with the Chaplain and the other Prayer Deacons for focused prayer meetings, to apply concentrated prayer pressure to the accumulating concerns of the community over time.

Interested in what the Prayer Deacons are doing at Palmer Seminary or how you can communicate prayer requests? Contact Pastor Willette Burgie.

Student Shepherds

Working with the Seminary Chaplain, the Student Shepherds offer the Palmer Theological Seminary community a pastoral presence. The Student Shepherds reflect our diversity in race, gender and background. They have special responsibility in the areas of worship, Day of Prayer, Orientation, conferences and workshops, and pastoral care.

Look to the Student Shepherds for:
- Hospital visitation
- Mentoring
- Emergency care
- Peer mediation
- Prayer
- Guiding new student assimilation process

The Student Shepherds are also very proactive in the spiritual life of the Seminary. This includes:
- Supporting the Small and Special Interest Group program.
- Having special responsibility in the planning of spiritual formation each term.
