The University

Eastern University is a private, co-educational, comprehensive Christian university located in southeastern Pennsylvania. It is dedicated to the preparation of undergraduate, theological and graduate students for thoughtful and productive lives of Christian faith, leadership and service. This vision and mission is captured in its motto: “Faith, Reason and Justice.”

The University is situated on a 92-acre campus in suburban Philadelphia, in a metropolitan area of almost six million people. The University is a Christian institution in the Evangelical Protestant tradition that values its ties with other Christian traditions. In addition to the Seminary, Eastern’s other branch campus is Esperanza College, located in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia. The University also offers course work at 13 instructional locations (including locations in West Virginia and Washington, DC) and at 17 instructional sites (including a site in Africa).

The University was founded in 1932 as a “college” of the Seminary to supplement the professional preparation of ministers. Today it is a fully developed liberal arts university that includes the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the Templeton Honors College (THC), the Campolo College of Graduate and Professional Studies (CCGPS), Esperanza College (EC), and Palmer Theological Seminary (PTS). These colleges offer 33 undergraduate majors, 15 master’s degrees, 3 doctoral degrees, an AA program (seven different concentrations), and a seminary-based certificate program. The University presently enrolls about 4,500 full- and part-time students in these undergraduate, graduate, urban, professional, international and Seminary programs.

The University’s present administrative structure is comprised of seven major divisions, each under the leadership of a Vice President. Each division responds to the University President. The University is overseen by a Board of Trustees.
