Seminary adds Wallis ScholarshipPalmer Seminary has established a half-tuition scholarship in honor of Jim Wallis, the founder of the Washington, D.C.-based Sojourners community and Sojourners magazine. Provisions of the scholarship are similar to those established for the Seminary’s Brauch and Sider scholarships, announced earlier this year.
To qualify for a Wallis Scholarship, students must attend Palmer Seminary full-time. The scholarship applies to any of the Seminary’s masters programs.
Wallis Scholars will give 10 hours a week to supporting the activities of the Seminary’s Sider Center on Ministry and Public Policy. Through their association with the Sider Center, Wallis scholars will gain valuable experience in research, writing, and networking in holistic ministry and public policy, as well as a greater understanding of how to merge scholarship with popular writing and organizing for social action. In addition, Wallis Scholars will be mentored by Professor Sider and others associated with the Sider Center.
Criteria for Wallis scholars include a minimum of a “B” (3.0) average in the undergraduate record, commitment to the embodiment of the Gospel’s call for justice and compassion, and active engagement in the life of a local church community.
