PTS Soccer Team Enters Playoffs

plmrsccrBack in the 1950s, what was then Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary had a football team! And yes it was tackle, not touch football. They played a schedule of games against other schools in the area.

Well football is back at Palmer Seminary! Except it's not "American football" but rather soccer. The Seminary's very talented soccer team competes in the Casa Soccer League, a Philadelphia-based amateur league. The team, which competes in the middle of three divisions, is about to begin the playoffs after a successful regular season.

If the champion is crowned based on countries represented, Palmer would be the sure winner. In addition to the U.S., the PTS team represents Jamaica, Cameroon, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Mexico, South Africa, Swaziland, and Canada. The team also represents several academic programs at the Seminary and at Eastern University, including the M.Div. D.Min, M.T.S., and M.B.A. in Economic Development. Add to that the B.A., as a couple of the players are on loan from Eastern University's highly touted soccer team.

The Seminary is grateful to have a team that represents its values even in the heat of competition. Go PTS!
