September 18-19 Black Clergy Summit

Palmer Seminary, the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity, and African American Interdenominational Ministries are teaming up to sponsor the Tri-State Summit "Mass Incarceration: the New Jim Crow?" on September 18 and 19. Palmer Seminary of Eastern University is hosting the second day of the two-day event, which begins with a 7 p.m. Sunday worship service at Bright Hope Baptist Church in Philadelphia with Raphael Warnock, pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, serving as guest preacher.

The venue shifts to Palmer Seminary on Monday, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m., with Michelle Alexander, author of the book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindedness, serving as the keynote speaker. Other speakers and panelists include Rev. Dr. Ernest McNear of the Kingdom Care Reentry Network; Rev. Dr. H. Dean Trulear of the Philadelphia Leadership Foundation; child psychiatrist Dr. Paul Fink; Otto Banks of the REACH Alliance Foundation; and Bishop Audrey Bronson, President of the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity.
