Dr. Loida I. Martell-Otero is an ordained American Baptist Churches minister and a doctor of veterinary medicine. She has served as interim pastor at First Baptist Church of the Community in Queens, New York, and as Associate Pastor at the Spanish Christian Baptist Church of Soundview, Bronx, New York. She served as President of ABC/ Metro New York from 1994-96 and was a founding member of the Association for Hispanic Theological Education (AETH).

Loida has served as an assistant professor at the University of Puerto Rico/ Medical Sciences campus, and as an adjunct faculty member at the Center for Urban Ministerial Education (the urban campus of Gordon-Conwell Theological School), Hartford Seminary, and at New York Theological Seminary. Her writings include "U.S. Latina Evangï¿½licas," co-written with Elizabeth Conde-Frazier, in Encyclopedia of Women and Religion in North America; "Of Satos and Saints: Salvation from the Periphery," in Perspectivas: Occasional Papers; "Mujeres Hispanas/ Latinas Teologizando: Una Perspectiva Evangï¿½lica," in Mï¿½s Voces: Reflexiones Teolï¿½gicas de la Iglesia Hispana (Abington Press); and "Lo Cotidiano: Finding God in the Spaces of the Everyday," in Witness Magazine. She also co-edited Teologï¿½a en Conjunto: A Collaborative Hispanic Protestant Theology with Josï¿½ D. Rodrï¿½guez.

She participated in a recent Colloquy for Nurturing Racially and Culturally Diverse Classrooms, sponsored by the Wabash Center, and was a panel speaker at a gathering of racial and ethnic women in theology sponsored by the Women in Leadership group of the Association of Theological Schools.

She is a member of the American Academy of Religion and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
