"My favorite thing about teaching research skills is that I get to become invisible. As students improve their skills in researching and using the library's resources, they need less and less assistance. I know that my goal has been reached when a student comes into the library and doesn't immediately look to someone for help."

Melody spends lots of time in theological libraries both at Palmer and at other interesting theological schools around the world. She is a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Association of Theological Schools of United States and Canada (ATS) and enjoys the accreditation visits she makes on behalf of ATS.

Melody is a member of the American Academy of Religion, the American Theological Library Association (ATLA), and the Fellowship of Christian Librarians. She has served on the boards of both ATLA and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Theological Library Association (SEPTLA), which she also served as President. Her love for books and theological education have combined in her service with the Theological Book Network (http://www.theologicalbooknetwork.org), which helps provide quality theological resources to schools in the majority world. She also works as a library consultant with Resource Leadership International and ATLA, as needed.

When not surrounded by books, Melody prefers to be outdoors enjoying fresh air and exercise, including hiking, canoeing, and skiing. Since she also loves to travel, she keeps her passport on hand at all times!
